- On November 4, 2009, Barbara D. Goldberg presented at a CLE hosted by the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) entitled “Medical Malpractice.” Mrs. Goldberg’s topics included: (1) interviews of subsequent treating physicians as they relate to HIPAA; (2) the admissibility of OPMC evidence; and (3) whether and to what extent a health insurer can assert a lien against the proceeds of a personal injury settlement.
- Barbara D. Goldberg and Richard J Montes co-authored “The Precise Art of Preservation” a chapter in Medical Malpractice in New York, 3rd Ed., New York State Bar Association, 2009.
- Kenneth Mauro was the moderator and Katherine Solomon were selected for inclusion in New York State Super Lawyers for Appellate Practice. Only five percent of the attorneys in the New York Metro Area are named to the list.
- On April 9, 2008, Caryn L. Lilling was the moderator and Matthew W. Naparty was a presenter for a CLE entitled “Increase Your Odds on Appeal” for the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association and Queen’s County Women’s Bar Association.
- Richard Montes was recently appointed the Chairperson of the Appellate Practice Committee for the Suffolk County Bar Association.
- Kenneth Mauro was a featured speaker at the Nassau Academy of Law on May 17, 2007 at a CLE seminar titled Proving Proximate Cause "A Minefield of Trouble."
- Barbara D. Goldberg was a featured speaker at the Nassau Academy of Law in March at a CLE seminar discussing "Error in the Judgment Clause in Medical Malpractice Actions."
- Mauro Goldberg & Lilling LLP is pleased to announce that Matthew W. Naparty has become a partner of the firm and that Deborah F. Peters has joined the firm of counsel. The firm will continue to dedicate its practice to litigation strategy and appellate advocacy.
Ms. Peters joins the firm with twenty-five years in practice. In 1995 she became a member of Diamond, Paino, Cardo, King & Peters, where she was the head of the firm’s Appellate Department and the Appeals Co-ordinator for five affiliated offices. She attended law school at the State University of New York at Buffalo and was on the Editorial Board of the Buffalo Law Review. For seven years she was an Adjunct Associate Professor of Law at Fordham University Law School. Ms. Peters also holds an M.A. in English Literature from The Ohio State University.
Mr. Naparty joined the firm in 2000. He has litigated numerous complex civil appeals in a variety of practice areas and has helped to further develop the firm’s practice in the area of active trial monitoring. He has lectured to the bar and our clients on topics such as appellate practice and damages. Prior to joining our firm, he worked as a law clerk for the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department in various capacities, including for the Decisions Department and for the New York State Grievance Committee. A Dean’s List graduate of St. John’s University School of Law, he is a member of the bar in both New York and New Jersey, and is admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
- Kenneth Mauro was elected to be a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers at the
Academy's recent meeting, it was announced on June 22, 2006. The American Academy of Appellate
Lawyers was founded in 1990 to recognize outstanding appellate lawyers and promote the improvement of
appellate advocacy and the administration of the appellate courts. Academy membership is open only to a
person who possesses a reputation of recognized distinction as an appellate lawyer. To be eligible for membership,
a nominee's practice must have focused substantially on appeals during at least the last 15 years.
Academy membership is limited to 500 members in the United States. Membership in the Academy is by
invitation only. Candidates for membership must be nominated by a present Academy member, reviewed
and approved by a Membership Evaluation Committee, and elected at a regular Academy meeting.
